Feeling Classy as a VIP

Events: Mudfest - Feeling Classy as a VIP. Recipes, reminiscences and reviews compiled by Australian award-winning writer, chef and globetrotter, Anna Johnston. www.shenannagans.com

When a couple of VIP tickets arrived to attend Mudfest International Film Festival at Bunnamagoo Wine Estate in Mudgee, which included a bunch of amazing flicks under the stars, a tour of the winery, all night delicious food and drink, a loo without the usual queuing for ages scenario and priority seating, I didn’t need to think twice, I was in. Yep…. I felt pretty darn special and am absolutely loving the perks of being the Events Manager at the NPCA.

Anna with friends Hannah & David at Bunnamagoo Mudfest in Mudgee, NSW

We travelled the 430kms to Mudgee, through some old mining towns with antique café shops housing hidden gems, it was refreshing to see freshly baked scones with lashings of cream and house made jams still a hit on the menu, making it hard to get back in the car again.

Anna with Bunnamagoo Wine Make ‘Blackie’

Bunnamagoos National Business Manager, Chris O’Connor greeted us at the gates and our night as VIPs began.  Food a plenty, all locally grown and produced, just kept coming. Cheeses galore, vine ripened tomatoes and olives, lush mini house made pies, pizzas, noodle boxes, and finished off with the most delightful bite sized desserts. We were even treated to some Mudgee craft beers.  Yum!

Delicious house made snacks at Bunnamagoo Mudfest

We were introduced to Robert Black ‘Blackie’ the Wine maker, a down to earth bloke who’s claim to fame is his ability to combine traditional wine-making skills with the most up-to-date equipment. They don’t stomp the grapes with their feet (yep, I asked!).

His wines are described as elegant, supple, and driven by Australian ripe fruit flavours. This philosophy results in wines that exhibit friendliness and approachability while retaining their individuality and character. They are made to be enjoyed with food and are invariably excellent table wines.

Translation – stylish, easy to drink, Aussie fruits that don’t strip your tastebuds, and go great with food, what more can you ask!

The screening kicked off at dusk, a diverse range of short films were shown including the 2014 Oscar winner short animation featuring Daniel Craig. It was awesome to see Canberra’s own Jimmy Ennett take out the ‘People’s Choice’ award for Man of Action. #CanberraPride

What a fun filled weekend, Mudgee is certainly doing it right!

Are you a Daniel Craig fan? How could you not be right?!  If yes, what’s your favourite film and or television program he stars in?

Mudgee was given a nudgee by the sound of it… !
What was your favourite drop from the weekend? I know you’re an aficionado of the many beer varieties of the globe (^-^)

Hahaha! Yep, we sure did give old Mudgee town, a ‘nudgee down’. (Creating words now… LOL!) I have recollections of the entire bus chanting Canberra, Canberra, Canberra as we got on, and the 3 of us singing/rapping at the top of our lungs as we drove back to town. We sampled the many wines and beers on offer, hmmmm… a favourite, the Bunnamagoo Sparkling is lovely, but my preferred drink over the weekend was a Mudgee Wheat Beer. Yummo! Thanks for checking in lovely Jo, I really appreciate the support. 🙂

I love visiting Mudgee! It has so much going on there 😀

    Anna - March 20, 2014 Reply

It really does Lorraine. 🙂 Its a thriving precinct, lots of hipsters too. It’s just so far away for us here in the Berra, so can’t easily do a weekend away. My friends and I decided we would take the jet next time. LOL.

What a fabulous weekend Anna VIP. What a pity I live on the other end of the world.
Have a beautiful day Anna.
🙂 Mandy xo

Miss Mandy! It is a TOTAL bummer you live on the other side of the world. You should totes move to Australia so we can VIP it up together. That’s a brilliant idea. 🙂 We had an absolute ball, such a fun event. Wishing you a wonderful day and week ahead too. Hugs. xxx

VIP is the business, sounded like it was a great weekend. Getting to have a tour of the winery with the Winemaker would have been interesting too.

Awh yeah. It was a wonderful way to experience the event. Very spoilt. And having the opportunity to meet and chat with Blackie the wine maker was wonderful. Enjoyed very much. Thanks for stopping by Ma. Xxx
