Frozen Smoothie Cubes OR How To Be A Chipmunk & Store Food For Later

Frozen Smoothie Cubes OR How To Be Like A Chipmunk & Store Food For Later. Anna Johnston - http://shenannagans.com

Rushing out the door in the morning? Throw a few frozen smoothie cubes into a  cup and they’ll be defrosted (but still chilly) by the time you reach work.

Sometimes I get a bit overly enthusiastic and go nuts at the markets and shop for way more people than I actually need to.

Frozen Smoothie Cubes OR How To Be Like A Chipmunk & Store Food For Later. Anna Johnston - http://shenannagans.comSometimes, I confess to just popping into my fave fresh food shop to pick up a couple of things and come out with a trolley full of fresh crisp leafy morsels that begged to come home with me.

Sometimes, I’ve then been faced with a problem of how to store my bounty, as my fridge just can’t handle it all. And sometimes, I think I may have a problem! But hey, problems are just challenges not solved right?

I often find myself admiring my bounty from various vantage points around my kitchen counter thinking of recipes, flavour combos and generally worshiping my ridiculous shopping spree for the amazing bouquet of colours and potential dishes they promise until an idea pops into my head.

Frozen smoothie cubes….. This is how I was to solve my carrot, kale and beetroot inundation. I cracked out my old juicer and some ice block trays and my nifty cryovac machine to make stacking loads of bulky foods away in the freezer ready for a quick defrost at a snap.

I then get to stand back and admire my freezer. Don’t worry, it’s a Chef thing, it’s not contagious!

I’d love to know, are you guilty of popping into your fave fresh food shop to pick up a couple of things and coming out with a trolley full? And what do you think of these frozen smoothie cubes?

I don’t really like smoothie but I have the habit of freezing fresh lemon juice in small cubes to add into my water – easy and refreshing!

What a super idea! I’m not much a fan of just vegetable smoothies, but to throw a carrot juice cubes or beet cube in with some fruit would be quite tasty.

It was super awesome to open the freezer and see the splashes of colour and health, double win right?!
And totally great to throw in to your smoothie in place of ice cubes too. 🙂

This is such an awesome idea, honestly speaking the cleaning of blender is a massive botheration and you found a neat way to solve the problem while maintaining the nutrition level!

Thanks Prateek, glad you like my smoothie cubes. 🙂 And yes, gotta agree, cleaning the juicer is a total pain, but when you look at your freezer and see all this deliciousness, I say its totes worth it. Happy juicing my friend!

This is a great idea to reduce waste! I have never done anything as adult and healthy as this, but I do often make smoothies with leftover bananas and fruit and then freeze leftovers into Popsicles for the kidlets.

YEASSSS…. that is a wonderful idea Serina, might turn my smoothie into popsicles next time, perhaps with a splash of booze to make them adult only! Ha! 🙂

Oh yeah, the produce overload, I know it. Great idea and love the colors. No juicer but I guess I could make the smoothie and freeze that into cubes too.

What a great – and simple – idea.
I’m having one of those ‘why didn’t I think of that’ moments!

OMGGGG,
such a refreshing, healthy, amazing drink.
LOVE those ice-cubes! xxx

I have the same problem — I’ll go to the store for one thing, and leave with a couple of dozen. The produce section is my downfall, too. Love the smoothie cube idea — really ingenious. Thanks!

Perfectly sized cubes to dunk in your glass or simply lick them when you are a bit too hot on a warm day. So many colourful fruits and veggies at home. Spoilt for choice as to what to make – and think of all the different juice combos you can come up with! I’m always guilty of going into Woolies or Coles and coming out with more juices of confectionary items…sometimes a new slice of cheese too when I still have some in the fridge 😀 Love you lots and hope all is going well, big sis x
