Bringing home the Bacon! #Oink

When Liz from Good Things emailed me about sampling Pialligo Farm Smokehouse Bacon, my inner chef stirred. Now this doesn’t happen often…. I guess it’s a side effect of working over a decade in the kitchen. These days the chef in me has softened a little, she now favours her floral aprons over the butchers’ blue & white striped aprons, & wears a headscarf rather than a skull cap, she’s also been known to sing show tunes and is partial to the odd dad joke.

“Why did the pig go into the kitchen?”
“He felt like bacon.”

She enjoys getting up early to get the cream of the crop at the farmers markets, and home to spend the day fridge cleaning, pantry rearranging, roasting, baking and actually making use of her kitchen.

June 22-28 was Australian Bacon Week, I think every week should be bacon week, but bacon week is an initiative of Australian Pork to celebrate bacon, the world’s most popular meat (OK, well I made that bit up – but in any case, it should be!) and draw attention to the competition that local bacon producers face from imported products.

Soft Boiled Eggs w/ Bacon Wrapped Asparagus Soldiers 4 eggs 10 fresh asparagus spears, trimmed 5 bacon strips, halved lengthwise

Seasoning to taste

Drizzle oil or cooking spray asparagus, season accordingly. Wrap slices of bacon around each spear and secure ends with toothpicks.

Pan sear over medium heat for 4-6 minutes on each side or until bacon is crisp. Discard toothpicks.

The Berras very own Pialligo Farm Smokehouse cleaned up, they took out top honours at Australian Bacon Week winning ‘Australia’s BEST artisan bacon’! #boom Peter and Charlie, the owners at Pialligo Farm produce dry-cured bacon, using an age-old recipe brought to life with their secret blend of spices. BONUS…. There are no preservatives, colourings or artificial flavours.

So my bacon loving little buddies…. Piallogo Farm Bacon is delicious, smoky salty goodness, with a lingering sweetness, and sublime crunch… this my friends… is meat candy.

This delicious award-winning bacon was supplied with compliments from Charlie and Peter from Pialligo Farm. Thanks Fellas!

So tell me dear reader, do you love a good dad joke? If yes, share the love in the comment section below.
