How to make an Espresso Martini

Have you ever had professional glamour photos taken of yourself? You know the ones…. you channel Sandy from Grease or maybe Rose from Titanic, you picture yourself sipping a cocktail as you recline by the fire on a chaise lounge, dressed in clothing you wouldn’t normally wear. Your face painted so heavily with makeup, you’re pretty sure it won’t at all resemble your own, the photographer stands a metre from your person very intimidatingly pointing the world’s largest lens in your face, asking or maybe expecting that you easily contort yourself. Your brain a flurry of confusion as you are instructed to ‘lower your chin, but look up, a little more to the right, too far right, give sexy eyes, NO… not drunk eyes, show less teeth, more lips, pout, not duck face, shoulder down, chest out, chin slightly up, look at me….. Hold it, hold it…….. HOLD IT!’

Unlike my glamour photo shoot, the Espresso Martini was born ready. Garnished with a few coffee beans, and loaded with caffeine, this little number is the perfect fusion of sophistication and simplicity. It can be consumed on its own, during dinner or as a fancy digestif post meal, the coffee and coffee liquor aid digestion – don’t chya know!

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time:  0 minutes

  • 50ml Espresso
  • 30ml Absolut Vodka
  • 15ml Tia Maria
  • 15ml Frangelico

Step 1: So, to begin… knock up your espresso. Let it go cold, as this will reduce dilution.

Step 2: Measure out 50ml of espresso (excluding crema) and add it to the cocktail shaker packed with ice.

Step 3: Add the 30ml of vodka, 15ml Tia and 15ml Frangelico and shaky shaky shaky.

Step 4: Then strain into a tumbler or Martini Glass.

I’d love to know, have you ever had professional glamour photos taken of yourself? If yes, did you look like you and do you hang the photo for all to see?
