I'm an Aunty – Meet Audrey Joan

Almost everyone I know told me being an Aunty is basically …. The BEST thing since bacon. I know…… ‘WhaaaaT!!!’ was my response too.

Those who know me, know I am not really a ‘kid person’, so you can imagine my shock to realise that I’d trade all the cups of coffee in this world to be able to spend a few moments cuddling my gorgeous baby niece while looking into her big beautiful eyes and wondering what she’s thinking. (Pretty sure she is acknowledging just how awesome it is to have me as an Aunty. Haha!)

Meet Audrey Joan Johnston, (she’s an AJ too #boom) the most adorable and cute little bundle of joy I have ever met. Yup, that’s right, I am currently experiencing a love that up until Sunday 1 March, 2015 I didn’t know existed. Baby AJ weighs 3.10kg and was 50cm long, (possibly a little more now she is a week old). I knew my sis in-law was a legend, but I have a whole new level of respect for the woman now, (how she fit in Ms M’s belly astounds me…).

I have noted a couple of bonuses about being an Aunty so far.

Your get to:

  • Cuddle and kiss and treasure until your heart is overflowing with gratitude and love, then hand them back – very reluctantly in a, she’s so cute NOT I want one of these pooping machines kind of ways.
  • Feel an overwhelming sense of pride not only towards the baby, but to her parents and your parents too. I am so incredibly proud of my amazing brother. Seeing the love, admiration and delight on his face when he is with Baby AJ. #amazed He’s a natural!
  • Watch in awe and amazement as she changes each and every day, and knowing that you aren’t responsible for the ‘serious stuff’ just the ‘fun stuff!’ (While paying out your brother and sister in law about the different characteristics that she has taken on from both of them #doryface)

To celebrate Audrey, I have decided I will buy a bottle every year for the cellar, so when big things happen in her life, we’ve got something special to crack.

I’d love to know, what do you think I should start collecting? Sparkling, red or white wine, fortified wine or sticky dessert wines?

2015: Henschke Henry’s Seven Shiraz Grenache Viognier Barossa SA
2016: Helm Tumbarumba Reisling Canberra District ACT
