Couple of dorks ready to get our Tuk onnnnnn!
What expectations come to your mind when you imagine a fun evening out with friends being ferried around restaurant to restaurant by tuk-tuk? I knew it was going to be fun; but I didn’t know I’d laugh till I cried, eat too much, possibly drink a little too much and still be giggling about the experience the next day.
I imagined a slow leisurely ride along the seaside boardwalks and garden pathways, where there was time to commune with nature, drink in the views and salt air and enjoy an unhurried foodie evening with my pals. Instead, we were quickly caught up in a carnival atmosphere of laughter and squeals of delight befitting a joy ride that was over way too quickly. It was impossible not to surrender to the moment and entertainment by our drivers, in-between sampling delicious food from what was an eclectic range of restaurants and ambiances beautifully befitting Airlie Beach.
I want my toes in the sand and a cocktail in hand!
So this is what seafood platters at Sorrento’s look like…
Our first stop was Sorrento Restaurant and Bar where 2 stunning platters of seafood for our party of 6 awaited and our choice of what turned out to be the first of several delicious cocktails consumed that evening!
Why limit happy to an hour?
‘I’m on a seafood diet. I see food and I eat it!’
Seriously, we could have just stayed at Sorrento’s all night, the sunset views alone are worth at least one visit and nibbling each morsel of so incredibly fresh tasty seafood would have made this little shenANNAgator happy enough to kick on sippin’ and munching the night away. The setting is probably my idea of heaven for a restaurant, but that would of defeated the point of a progressive dinner, so before we knew it, we were off to our next step.

Watching sunsets around the world is boring – Said no-one EVER!
Back in our fancy electric Tuktuk Pedicabs and careening down the main street of Airlie Beach certainly mixed the mood up from lay back cocktails and sunset views to the ‘Just Tuk’n’ vibe as our driver had us in stitches laughing at his crazy jokes and running commentary as we made our way none to quietly to La Tabella Trattoria. The busy outdoor dining area was already bustling and filling up quickly, but for all that we were not waiting long before the next course arrived from the rich Italian flavors of antipasto and beetroot gnocchi with duck.
