Smoothie Operator – Beetroot, Ginger & Orange Smoothie

Beetroot, Ginger & Orange Dairy Free Smoothie Recipe by Anna Johnston -

The countdown until my weeks of fun in the sun in Asia town is officially on now. #winning  Although, not gonna lie, the thought of putting my swimmers on is a tad daunting, especially as I have a month of parties and festive food eating and boozing to get through.

I figured getting my vegan smoothie drink on, and hitting the Bikram yoga studio (90 minutes in 40c heat) multiple times a week would be a fabulous way to rid that spare tyre, and ward off any weight that may be considering taking up residence on my thighs too.

Bikram Yoga Pose & Beetroot, Ginger & Orange Dairy Free Smoothie Recipe by Anna Johnston -

This officially is the best beetroot smoothie I’ve made, I’d suggest going easy on the quantity of beetroot you put in the smoothie if you’re not big on vegetables in your drink, as it can taste a little ‘dirty’, a small amount really does go a long way.

I reckon the beetroot smoothie is super easy, super delicious, super satisfying, sweet, earthy, and revitalising too.

Have you ever tried Bikram Yoga? And, I’d love to hear what cheeky tricks you have up your sleeve to stay lean during the festive season?

Beetroot, Ginger & Orange Dairy Free Smoothie Recipe by Anna Johnston -

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time:
0 minutes

1 small beetroot
2 apples
1 frozen banana
2 large oranges
1 healthy knob ginger

Step 1: Peel & chop beetroot

Step 2: Deseed the apples

Step 3: Peel the banana

Step 4: Peel & deseed the oranges

Step 5: Peel the knob of ginger

Step 6: To create this big glass of kick-butt, surprisingly delicious, bright fuchsia pink cheerful smoothie, simply blitz your ingredients in your juicer. I have a Nutribullet, it completely breaks down ingredients, leaving the fibre, and not the chunks. Pour over ice and gulp down the goodness.

It really does work huh? Just about to make one now, seems to energise the body. ๐Ÿ™‚
I practise Bikram at least 3 times a week, but am totally still a beginner too. That’s kinda cool tho, you always have something to strive for. ๐Ÿ™‚

I cannot wait to follow you on your Asia adventures! I’ve tried yoga ONCE! (oh my.) but am not really into it. I’m more of a cardio exerciser as I feel for my body type, that’s the best way to get rid of the spare tires haha ๐Ÿ™‚ No fancy tricks here, just good old exercise and avoiding carbs and sweets (as much as I can) prior to said holiday.

I cannot wait to share my Asian adventures, 21 days and counting. Yay!
We are opposites with our exercise, but on the same page with the food avoiding. Super hard this time of year tho.
Hope you have a rippa weekend lovely. x

Wow – that is one hot pink drink! It sounds delicious, though so I’m going to give it a go. What doesn’t sound delicious is Bikram yoga – I really don’t get that. I always thought that yoga is supposed to be calming, strengthening and meditative – not an endurance sport.

    Anna - November 26, 2014 Reply

Such a delicious drink, goes down super easy too, which I credit to its prettiness. ๐Ÿ™‚
Well yes, it is a rather intense form of yoga, but for me, I get the calm, I absolutely get the strengthening and the teacher constantly says it is a 90 minute open eye meditation, so tick on all 3. LOL! It’s not a yoga for everyone, but I really love it. ๐Ÿ™‚

This smoothies is so fun and vibrant. I know I would love it. Where are you going in Asia, HK by any chance? I guess if it involves a beach I can rule that out. However, if you are in the area, please do give a shout out! Enjoy your holiday and take care, BAM

    Anna - November 25, 2014 Reply

    Thanks heaps BAM! ๐Ÿ™‚
We are heading to Singapore, Penang, Phuket, Rangoon, KL…. Unfortunately not HK on this trip. But I will absolutely be letting you know if I am in town, it’d be amazing to hang out with you.
Thanks heaps, hope you are well too lovely one. Cheers! ๐Ÿ™‚

Yummmm! Nice! Although I might need to pass on the banana…

Tips for staying slim this festive season? Eating in moderation, and taking my time…. but I’m certainly not going to miss out!!!

    Anna - November 25, 2014 Reply

Of course, you and banana are not mates, you could substitute with frozen pineapple, thats a winning combo with this smoothie too. ๐Ÿ™‚
Eating in moderation… Hmmm… Okay. LOL!

      Tim | UrbanDuniya - November 26, 2014 Reply

      I will!! I promise!!! ๐Ÿ˜‰

        Anna - November 26, 2014 Reply

Haha… #handoverheart I want to say I will too Tim, but I have a weakness for festive food. And someone told me years ago that Christmas calories don’t count, I mean look at Santa, how silly would he look all skinny and swimmer ready. Hmmm… Think I just talked myself out of juice drinking and yoga sessions with that rational. LOL! Have a happy week my friend. ๐Ÿ™‚

I agree Tandy! Ginger is one of my faves too. ๐Ÿ™‚
I haven’t tried Hatha yoga before, but if it tones and does amazing things for the body, I must.
LOL! Seeing results in just a couple of weeks, so I’m feeling more confident about putting on the swimmers. ๐Ÿ™‚

I’ve been very wary of bikram yoga as I’m not sure about exercising in all that heat but a friend of mine had a shocking skin condition that developed all of a sudden. His face was covered in red welts. Doctors had no answers and anything they prescribed was of no use. He started doing bikram yoga and his skin cleared up – no word of a lie. He hasn’t had an issue since. I do love to start the day with a smoothie and you have some great flavours in this one. I’m also trying to get my bikini body knocked into shape! It’s a struggle xx

    Anna - November 24, 2014 Reply

I swear by it Charlie, it is one of the best forms of exercise, and if practiced often it seems to fix soooooo many things, strange things like your friends skin condition. Good to hear the positive stories, thanks for sharing. ๐Ÿ™‚
Super good lucky knocking your bod into bikini wearing shape. Have a rippa week lovely lady. xox

So Fresh.

I am all about the smoothie at the moment. I recently bought the knock of version of the ‘magic bullet’ and it is amazing.
I have been making the following smoothie;

Beetroot, shredded Coconut, LSA nut mix, scoop of protein (chocolate of course) and the rest with water. Amazing. Such an awesome way to kick the day off, get your hydration on, and ready the body to look gooooood. ๐Ÿ™‚

Not long now until the holiday now Anna. I must admit, I am looking forward to hearing about your adventures and seeing the photos.

Thanks for sharing some more adventures. Best of luck closing the year out in style.

It really is a great way to start the day, your body really does appreciate it too.
    I know right, 30 days until I am on a boat… BOOM!

    Anna - November 20, 2014 Reply

Something about the pink smoothie that tricks your mind into thinking its a dessert and not health food.

Yummo, Anna… sounds great. We’ve been thinking about that nutri bullet thing, but it’s so expensive and we really don’t need another appliance of any kind. Are they that good?

    Anna - November 20, 2014 Reply

Haha… I was a bit the same before purchasing the nutribullet, but is a total gem, does the job quick smart, and it is super easy to clean too. I know there are products that do the same job and are cheaper, but they don’t seem to do what the bullet does.

How cool are you in your yoga pose – think I would fall flat on my face if I had to try that. Last did yoga when we were living in Mauritius. Now it’s just running and cycling and arm and tummy exercises at home – really nothing is helping the cellulitey arms though -I refuse to believe it is an age thing. Urgh.
I have to scratch my juicer out of the back of the cupboard and get cracking with some juicing – beetroot and carrot was a favourite of mine zillions of year ago. ๐Ÿ˜€
Have a beautiful day my lovely friend.

Carrot is a great ingredient in the juice, but perhaps I am bias with that, they are a go to eat in my life in general. LOL!
